Islanders game is a competitive construction game, but it’s not a real competition with others, it’s a competition with yourself. How long can it last, that is, how much can you build, before you paint yourself in a corner? Getting access to big things, circus tents, quiet complexes and big fucking towers is not about accumulating wealth or scratching your way to a technological tree, but it’s about keeping enough time for the game to happily share it with you.
The islanders are built around dots, which is something I have mixed feelings about: there’s a blatant artificiality, a game that feels a little uncomfortable with calm, pastel tones and chubby cuboid shapes, but a) I can’t think. a better way to do it b) I’m happy to demo so I’ll let it go. Place certain buildings near certain other buildings and you will get more points. Place them alone and you won’t get many, or place them too close to philosophically opposed buildings, for example. a circus tent between mansions, and you’ll lose a lot.
